Cain Velasquez

After we reported that former Pride and UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira would most likely be ready for a February return, it has now been confirmed that Nogueira’s return has been moved from UFC 108 to UFC 109.

It has also been confirmed that the winner of the bout will be the #1 contender against the winner of the Brock Lesnar/Shane Carwin heavyweight title bout.

The bout between Nogueira and Velasquez had already been set once before, but a staph infection forced him to pull out.

Nogueira admitted that he didn’t let the antibiotics that he was on run their course and that caused his fourth staph infection over the course of the last year.

Velasquez is coming off the most impressive win of his career, a thorough domination of the IFL’s best heavyweight, Ben Rothwell, at “UFC 104: Machida vs. Shogun.”
