Gabriel Gonzaga has become the latest casualty of a staph infection, forcing him out of his UFC 108 bout against fellow heavyweight Junior dos Santos.
A winner in 3 out of his last 4 fights, a win over dos Santos could have put him back into title contention.
It’s currently unclear as to whether or not the UFC has decided to replace Gonzaga or scrap the bout altogether.
Junior dos Santos is riding a 4-fight win streak, with the last three coming inside the Octagon. He owns a pair of impressive victories over Fabricio Werdum and Mirko Cro Cop.
Fellow Brazilian Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira was also moved from UFC 108 to UFC 109 after suffering from a staph infection.
