Another UFC headliner will be forced to pull out of a fight. This time it’s middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who will miss his title defense against Vitor Belfort at UFC 109.
Silva recently underwent elbow surgery to remove bone fragments that had been lodged in his elbow and his rehabiliation is apparanlty not progressing as quickly as they had hoped.
Vitor Belfort earned his title shot against Silva due to a shrinking middleweight division and an impressive showing over former champion Rich Franklin at UFC 103.
This is the second time that Silva’s return has been pushed back, but this time we don’t know if Belfort is going to be asked to wait for Silva or take on another opponent in the mean time.
Silva and Belfort were originally supposed to meet at UFC 108 in January for the UFC’s New Year’s card.
