Knee surgery, at least a year-long layoff, only three fights in two-and-a-half years, be damned. The Gambling Gods still believe UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (pictured) will retain his title when he meets Gilbert Melendez later this summer.
The 155-pounders will collide after fulfilling their posts as opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter 20.”
Pettis is nearly a 2-1 odds-on favorite to successfully defend his throne. Melendez, meanwhile, checks in as a 1.5-1 underdog against “Showtime.”
This will mark Melendez’s third Octagon affair, two of which will have been of the championship variety.
