A heavyweight shootout between former champion Junior dos Santos (pictured) and Stipe Miocic will co-headline UFC 173.
The Las Vegas Review Journal confirmed the scrap with UFC officials late Monday night, with the promotion endorsing the report by retweeting their article.
This marks dos Santos’ first scrap since getting steamrolled by reigning champ Cain Velasquez for the second time in three outings. Despite his inability to solve the Velasquez puzzle of late, after knocking Velasquez out in 64 seconds in their initial encounter to capture the crown, “Cigano” remains the second best 265-pounder in the world.
Miocic will be riding a two-fight winning streak into the fight. The Croatian owns an impressive 11-1 professional record, with his lone blemish coming to Stefan Struve in September 2012.
The May 24 event takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
