UFC Middleweight Yushin Okami

Former UFC middleweight top contender Yushin Okami (pictured) kicks off his post-UFC career against Svetlozar Savov at World Series of Fighting 9.

The March 29 event takes place inside Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Okami was cut from the UFC in September after getting trounced by Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. “Thunder” was the promotion’s sixth ranked middleweight at the time of his release.

Okami has won six of his past nine scraps, with his blemishes during that run coming against then-champ Anderson Silva, Tim Boetsch (a bout Okami had well under control until Boetsch staged a late rally) and Souza.

Little known Savov will also be making his WSOF debut. The 25-year-old is victorious in three of his past four fights in even lesser known MMA organizations.

The 185-pound affair takes third-to-top billing in the cards’ lineup.

NBC Sports Network broadcasts the main card live starting at 9:30PM ET/6:30PM PT.
