UFC commentator Joe Rogan set the MMA rumor mill on fire last week when he teased fans during a radio interview that he knew some “secret” stuff about UFC bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey’s next opponent and that the UFC would be making a “huge announcement” in the coming weeks.

When it comes to Rousey, there are only two names that would be of the “huge” variety – Cris “Cyborg” Justino and Gina Carano (pictured).

Cyborg said she doesn’t plan on trying to drop to bantamweight until at least December, while Carano hasn’t been inside a cage since getting steamrolled by Cyborg in August 2009. Therefore, Carano coming out of quasi-retirement is the most logical choice of the two, right Dana White?

“Joe Rogan blew my whole week with that interview,” the UFC president stated Friday. “I’ve been getting terrorized ever since he said it. There’s nothing done as far as [who Rousey’s] next opponent is.

“Cat Zingano has gone kind of radio silent on me. She’s been through a lot of stuff, so I don’t know where she’s at or what she’s thinking.”

Granted Zingano should have next dibs at Rousey’s belt, but Carano is where the box office bucks are to be made. If Carano wanted to return to MMA, she’s still under the Strikeforce contract she signed many moons ago. Therefore, the UFC has her locked down since they acquired Strikeforce in 2011.

“She’s got a four-fight deal still left on her Strikeforce contract,” White revealed. “When you go on a hiatus, whether you’re injured or semi-retired, you’re still under contract. If you come back, you’re still under contract with us.

“So, she is under contract with us, but I have no plans right now.”

The fact White went to his legal team to clarify that has to mean he’s recently spoken to Carano and something is afoot, right? I mean, where there’s smoke there’s fire, right?

“Guys, I have no idea,” White stated. “I have literally avoided every conversation about this since Joe Rogan went on the radio show and speculation was Gina Carano.

“If Gina Carano wanted to fight in the UFC, we would definitely do it.”

However, White wouldn’t guarantee Carano would get a title shot right out the gate.
