Not many have had a rougher 10-month stretch than UFC bantamweight top contender Cat Zingano. After beating Miesha Tata to score a coaching spot opposite champion Ronda Rousey on “The Ultimate Fighter 18,” with a crack at Rousey’s crown to follow, Zingano was forced to undergo knee surgery and hasn’t been seen since.
Worst of all, Zingano’s husband committed suicide in January.
Meanwhile, Rousey proceeded to beat Tate in December and dispose of Sara McMann two months later. “Rowdy” is planning on returning by summer and has said Zingano should get next dibs since she’s still the #1 contender.
That sounds perfect to Zingano.
“I know Ronda had said something about maybe fighting at the end of the summer, and I think that sounds pretty good to me, too,” Zingano stated on this week’s edition of Inside MMA. “Mid to late summer sounds really good to me.”
Cris “Cyborg” Justino recently made waves by revealing she’s going to attempt to shed the 10 pounds required to challenge Rousey for her UFC bantamweight throne. If Zingano suffers another setback and Cyborg leapfrogs her in line, that’s not a problem.
Zingano simply wants to test herself against the best, no matter what order they are presented.
“I’m here to fight,” she stated. “Yes, it’s about beating the best. I want to fight everybody, but when it comes down to it, I want to fight Cybog. I want to fight everyone that there is in that weight division. It’s about the fight. It’s not about who. It’s about getting out there and doing what I love.
“So, I think a fight between me and Cyborg would be fun. I think a fight between me and Ronda would be fun.”
