Following in the steps of his former and now current training partner, UFC heavyweight Cheick Kongo has joined the Wolfslair team in the U.K. to help grow his MMA career. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson recently joined Wolfslair as well, after splitting with former manager/trainer Juanito Ibarra.
It was reported that Ibarra had been “ripping off” his fighters according to Tito Ortiz. Jackson, Kongo and Michael Bisping were all training partners in Big Bear as can be seen on previous UFC: All Access shows.
Wolfslair co-owner Anthony McGann told Yahoo! Eurosport that, “they [the UFC] want him to work on his ground game,” and that Kongo was in line to face Brock Lesnar at UFC 91 until Randy Couture made his return.
Knowing that Kongo has some work to do, McGann would prefer that Kongo’s next fight be agianst another striker as opposed to a wrestler. The hope is that Kongo could gain more confidence and experience before moving up the UFC’s heavyweight ladder.
