Paulo Filho’s boxing coach, Josuel Distak, stated that Chael Sonnen is lucky that Hurricane Ike came when it did, forcing the WEC to postpone his rematch with the middleweight champion. Instead of having their rematch this weekend, WEC 36 was moved to November 5th. Distak stated that Filho is more than prepared for the rematch, mentally and physically, however the delay was a blessing for Sonnen.

“Not only Paulo, but everybody was really sorry about it, we were training hard and it happened,” Distak told Tatame.com about the hurricane. “It’s sad for some, and good for others.”

Guess who he thinks it’s good for? That’s right, the man that Filho controversially submitted just nine months ago.

“Good for Sonnen…We were stronger and ready to get his left arm again. He has now more one month to get ready”, said Distak.

Filho defeated Sonnen at WEC 31 in his first ever title defense. However when he caught Sonnen in the infamous armbar, Sonnen insists that he never verbally tapped. There were only five seconds remaining in the 2ndRound when the referee stepped in to stop the fight.
