UFC president Dana White’s suspicions were true, heavyweight Travis Browne did break his hand and ribs during Saturday’s top contender shootout against Fabricio Werdum.
Browne’s coach, Ricky Lundell, confirmed the injuries Sunday by posting the X-ray of Browne’s fractured haymaker and a poster giving his protege props for his toughness on Twitter.
Lundell revealed that both breaks occurred during the opening round. Therefore, Browne soldiered through for at least 20 minutes with his wounds to try and secure a shot reigning heavyweight king Cain Velasquez.
Unfortunately for Browne, his efforts were all for naught. Werdum took home a fairly lopsided (49-46, 50-45, 50-45) unanimous decision victory to cement his next dibs status.
No word on how long the injuries will keep Browne on the pine.
UFC on FOX 11 took place Saturday inside Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
