Glover Teixeira was unbeaten in his last 20 fights heading into UFC 172. The Brazilian picked a bad time to have his torrid streak come to a screeching halt.
Actually, light heavyweight king Jon Jones (pictured) had plenty to do with it. Jones showed why he was a 5-1 odds-on favorite to dispose of Teixeira in his lopsided (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) unanimous decision victory on Saturday night.
Jones unleashed most of his arsenal (I would say his entire arsenal, but who knows what he’s holding back for future opponents?), clocking Teixeira with punches, kicks and mostly standing elbows.
Jones will now grant Alexander Gustafsson the rematch he’s been clamoring for. However, Jones refused to discuss “The Mauler” at the post-fight press conference, so there appears to be some serious animosity there.
UFC 172 took place inside Baltimore Arena in Maryland.
