With yesterday’s announcement that former friends and now foes Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz would be opposing coaches on next season’s edition of “The Ultimate Fighter,” we now know that there will be a third fight between the former UFC light heavyweight champions.
Dana White said that a trilogy is the fight that fans want to see and that’s probably true after their first two fights were two of the biggest UFC events ever.
Liddell hasn’t competed in the Octagon since April in a loss to Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, but has remained active by being a contestant on “Dancing With the Stars” on ABC.
White had verbally retired Liddell following the UFC 97 loss, but told Joe Rogan that, “At the end of the day, I’m not his dad. I think the fans want to see Chuck/Tito III anyways, so what the hell.”
Ortiz is still looking for his first win in over 3 years and hopes that he can finally take down his former friend.
“Third times a charm,” Ortiz said after the official announcement.
One way or another, the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter” will be interesting to say the least.
