Who says you can’t go home again, especially when you’re headed to Tim Sylvia’s (pictured) hometown and you just re-signed Andrei Arlovski?
Now that the UFC has confirmed their debut event in Maine, Sylvia has launched a social media campaign to make his octagon return on the August 15 card.
“The UFC is going to be in Bangor Maine in aug. Please guys contact the UFC guys through social media. Dana white, joe silva, Sean Shelby, and Lorenzo fertetta, and bug them till your blue in the face and let them know you want to see the original Maine-iac on the card,” Sylvia posted on his Facebook page. “I want to fight for my fans, friends, and family in one of my home towns it’s a perfect fit.”
Between 2002-2008, Sylvia fought 13 times for the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion. Nine of those scraps were of the championship variety, with him winning the crown on two separate occasions.
From a nostalgic standpoint, who wouldn’t want to see the former UFC heavyweight champion back in the big leagues? From a realistic standpoint, it likely won’t happen.
Despite owning a respectable 31-10 (1 NC) professional record, Sylvia hasn’t posted a win in his past four outings.
“The Main-iac” was last seen dropping a decision to Ruslan Magomedov in a show in Russia.
Sylvia vs. Arlovski V, anyone? Just kidding, Arlovski is already assigned to Brendan Schaub at UFC 174.
