Chael P. Sonnen might walk the mean streets of West Linn, but those sidewalks ain’t got nothin’ on Rio de Janeiro. According to Brazilian outlet Portal Vale Tudo, former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (pictured) was robbed at gunpoint in his homeland of Brazil earlier this month.

Shogun dropped off fellow UFC star Demian Maia and their manager, Eduardo Alonso, at their hotel in Barra da Tijuca after dinner and headed back to his own hotel. A car filled with four armed men then boxed Shogun in and forced their way into his car.

They reportedly held him up with rifles for his shirt, shoes and money.

According to Alonso, one of the culprits recognized the jiu jitsu specialist and warned him to “not try anything.”

For good measure, they took off in Shogun’s vehicle, which he borrowed from a friend, and forced him to walk barefoot for a mile on a dangerous expressway to the nearest police station.

Fortunately, Shogun was unharmed in the robbery.
