Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is one of the classiest fighters in MMA, but that doesn’t mean that he’s not allowed to have his own opinion. Mir of course uses “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series (which happens to premiere tonight) as an example of how the sport should be portrayed by saying, “By having the cameras in the house it acts as sort of a window into the real lives of the people who take the sport seriously.”
“Every time Kimbo fights it sets the sport back,” Mir goes on to say in the 5ozofPain interview. “Guys like that just reinforce the idea in the public’s eye that we are all blood thirsty barbarians who just want to pummel each other and that there is no skill required.”
Mir is obviously speaking about Slice’s previous fighting history on YouTube, but he still feels that Slice leaves a bad taste in the mouths of people who still think that MMA is too violent for America.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a UFC employee is knocking Slice. UFC President Dana White and former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell have voiced their opinion in the past.
It’s up to Kimbo Slice to change it.
