At this point, is anyone really surprised when a mixed martial artist fails a drug test? Neither is UFC president Dana White (pictured).
White appeared as a guest on “America’s Pregame” on Fox Sports 1 Tuesday to address the flunked random drug screening the Nevada State Athletic Commission caught Chael Sonnen with last month.
White focused on the fact Sonnen was adjusting to life after testosterone replacement therapy (TRT).
White said the UFC only had “five out of over 500 fighters” who were on TRT. Actually, there were much more than that.
White essentially blamed the NSAC for not helping fighters get acclimated to competing without TRT.
“There’s gonna be effects of stopping this thing cold turkey,” White said for Sonnen testing positive for Anastrozole and Clomiphene. “When [TRT] went away, they didn’t do a very good job of figuring out how to get these guys off it. You don’t just go cold turkey, there’s thing you have to do to get off it. If they don’t take these estrogen blockers, they can get side effects from it.
“Chael Sonnen’s at this point in his career, his life, he got married, he’s trying to have children, he was on medicine to get fertile to have a baby. His wife is now pregnant. The rules should have been laid out better.”
