MMAWeekly is reporting that Strikeforce is currently in talks to get highly-ranked lightweight Shinya Aoki fighting in their cage as early as March of next year. “I do believe Aoki will probably be here fighting for Strikeforce in March sometime,” Strikeforce’s Scott Coker told the website.
After an “alliance” was made between Dream and Strikeforce this past August, the two sides hoped to be able to share fighters and put together the fights that fans wanted to see.
Now, Strikeforce and Coker have their eyes set on of the world’s best lightweight fighters in Aoki.
Best known for his stylish tights and sizzling ground game, Aoki has compiled an impressive 22-4 record while beating the likes of Joachim Hansen, Eddie Alvarez and JC Calvancante.
Aoki is scheduled to compete on the “Dream vs Sengoku” New Year’s Eve card, so a March bout would be possible if Aoki remains healthy.
