The good news for Renan Barao, he’s getting immediate rematch with freshly-minted UFC bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw (pictured). The bad news for Barao, he’ll have to enter hostile to reclaim his throne.
On Tuesday, it was announced the 135-pounders will collide August 30 inside Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
Dillashaw trains at Team Alpha Male – just a hop, skip and a jump away from Sleep Train Arena.
UFC president Dana White suggested an instant sequel was possible just minutes after Barao had his 32-fight, nine-year winning streak snapped by Dillashaw in May at UFC 173. However, he wasn’t sure at the time because Dillashaw’s win was so lopsided.
Now that the dust has settled on their one-sided shootout, it appears White and Co. have decided a rematch was the best route.
Dillashaw, who entered the biggest fight of is life a significant 5-1 underdog, posted a TKO in the 5thRound over Barao to collect the crown.
No other bouts have been reported for the lineup at this time.
