UFC Light Heavyweight Jon Jones

Daniel Cormier is a serious threat to Jon Jones’ (pictured) record-setting reign as UFC light heavyweight king, and the Gambling Gods are putting their money where their betting lines are.

For the first time since capturing the crown from Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in March of 2011 – seven successful title defenses ago, four of which came against former UFC champions, Jones enters a fight less than a 2-1 odds-on favorite.

Jones is currently pegged as a -185 favorite to retain his title against “DC.” Cormier, meanwhile, comes in close behind as a 1.5-1 underdog.

Their shootout doesn’t go down until UFC 178, so it will be interesting to see how their respective lines shift as September 27 draws near.

Just in case you were wondering, here are Jones’ lopsided lines since donning the 205-pound crown:

-500 vs. Glover Teixeira
-900 vs. Alexander Gustafsson
-1000 vs. Chael Sonnen
-800 vs. Vitor Belfort
-550 vs. Rashad Evans
-450 vs. Lyoto Machida
-600 vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson

From a betting standpoint, Cormier is the closest Jones has been viewed against an opponent since dominating Shogun at UFC 128. Jones was only -210 entering that scrap.

Here are the early wagering lines for Jones vs. Cormier (courtesy of Bovada.lv):

Favorite (-) Underdog (+)

Jon Jones -185
Daniel Cormier +150
