There appears to be something in the water over at RFA. On Friday, it was reported Brian Ortega (pictured) became the second former RFA transfer to get busted for taking the anabolic steroid drostanolone following his UFC debut.
According to Sherdog.com, the California State Athletic Commission has issued Ortega a nine-month suspension retroactive to his July 26 bout at UFC on FOX 12, fined him $2,500 and overturned his submission victory over de la Torre to a no contest.
Ortega, RFA’s former featherweight champion, was the lone athlete on the card to fail his post-fight urine test, which was administered by a World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
Ortega’s failed exam comes on the heels of Kevin Casey’s flunked test for the exact same steroid in his first fight for the UFC. Casey was promoted to the UFC after becoming RFA’s inaugural middleweight champ.
SAP Center in San Jose, California hosted UFC on FOX 12.
Ortega, 23, now owns an 8-0 (1 NC) professional record.
