If you watched “UFC 107: Penn vs. Sanchez,” then you saw a completely different Frank Mir. The trash talking leading up to the fight was the same old Frank, but the guy that rocked Cheick Kongo and submitted him was a completely different animal.
“A loss to Cheick [Kongo] would’ve been a pretty bad statement on my career. He was an opponent that I really felt that I had to come out there and decisively smash,” Mir said following his impressive win over Kongo.
The difference in Mir was noticeable at the weigh-ins as he added over 20 pounds of muscle, something that he feels he needs to do to remain competitive at heavyweight.
His thoughts are never too far from the man that jacked his title.
“I just want Brock to get healthy to be honest with you,” Mir said about his nemesis.
Don’t get him wrong, you won’t be seeing Frank Mir going to lunch with Brock Lesnar, but he’s also a human being. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t want another crack at the champion either.
“Maybe if he watched the fight he’d be more inclined to not get healthy,” Mir continued.
Mir knows that he’s got both Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez in front of him if he wants to get a third bout with Lesnar, but he’s not going to wait around if Lesnar’s going to be out of action for a while.
“It just kinda depends on what happens now with Brock. It depends on how long he’s out. If he’s out for a year, I don’t think any of us are going to just sit and wait for a title shot. We have to feed our families so we’ll all be fighting,” the former champion explained.
The brash Mir showed that if there is a trilogy between he and Lesnar, it’ll be pretty damn interesting.
