These UFC media days are beginning to become more exiting than the fights themselves.
Tearing a page out of the Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier playbook, featherweight king Jose Aldo (pictured) shoved Chad Mendes after the two engaged in a heated face-off at Tuesday’s UFC 179 media day at Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Mendes went nose-to-nose with Aldo, then whispered something to the only 145-pound champion the UFC has ever known. Aldo said something back as they turned towards the cameras for additional photos.
Apparently, the first square-off wasn’t enough. The bitter rivals were lined up again moments later. Aldo decided he needed additional air space the second time around and shoved Mendes away.
Security quickly stepped in before any shoes could go flying.
The archenemies have been going back-and-forth in the media the past several months. Mendes called Aldo “fragile” because “Money” thinks he’s always hurt. Aldo then fired back by questioning the “supplements” Mendes takes.
The last time these two collided, Mendes wound up unconscious on the canvas after blocking Aldo’s knee with his face at UFC 142.
Aldo and Mendes get to fight for real again October 25 at UFC 179 inside Maracanazinho Gymnasium in Rio.
