Regardless of what Dana White may say, it’s starting to look more and more likely that the UFC will have an interim title bout to keep the heavyweight division relevant as Brock Lesnar continues to work towards getting healthy.
“We’ll know in a month to a month and a half whether he’s going to need that major surgery,” White said about Lesnar following UFC 107. “If he needs that major surgery there’ll be an interim title.”
That means that at the end of January the UFC could announce that the Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez bout at UFC 110 in Australia may be made into an interim title bout.
Another possibility would be for the winner of the UFC 110 main event to face Shane Carwin for the interim title, but Carwin’s health may also be in question following knee surgery.
Not to mention the fact that Frank Mir kicked down the door on the division after “smashing” Cheick Kongo at UFC 107.
