TJ Dillashaw (pictured) took the scenic route in beating Joe Soto at UFC 177, but the bantamweight champion ultimately got to the winners circle, nonetheless.
Dillashaw was a whopping 11-1 odds-on favorite to retain his title after Renan Barao withdrew from their rematch at the last second after passing out while trying to cut weight. Soto put on a commendable performance given the fact he was given just 24-hours’ notice, but he just didn’t have enough.
Dillashaw wound up knocking out Soto with a head kick and some punches on the canvas in the fifth round to seal the deal.
The victory marked Dillashaw’s second straight fifth round finish.
UFC 177 took place inside Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, California.
