From a professional fighting standpoint, 2014 has been one to forget for UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis. From a marketing standpoint, “Showtime” couldn’t have asked for a better year.
Despite sitting the sidelines rehabbing his surgically repaired knee, Pettis has scored two significant endorsement deals. On Sunday, it was reported Pettis won the Wheaties Next Champion fan vote to appear on the cereal box’s cover.
This announcement comes on the heels of July’s sponsorship Pettis inked with Reebok.
“This is huge for the sport!!! Thank you to everyone who voted…. December 6th I will silence the critics!! @wheaties @ufc,” Pettis tweeted following his latest mainstream marketing victory.
No word on when Pettis’ Wheaties box will hit store shelves.
In addition to his endorsement deals with Wheaties and Reebok, Pettis also just finished serving as coach on “The Ultimate Fighter 20,” the first all-female season in the show’s extended run.
Pettis ends his 15-month hiatus on December 6 when he defends his throne against Gilbert Melendez at UFC 181.
