As expected, Robbie Lawler will not be participating in Saturday’s “Strikeforce: Evolution” event as the organization was unable to find a suitable opponent for the former EliteXC middleweight champion. Lawler’s original opponent, Trevor Prangley, abruptly pulled out of their scrap earlier this week due to an undisclosed injury.
AOL FanHouse is reporting that the Showtime broadcast will now only host four televised bouts as Strikeforce is opting not to replace the Lawler/Prangley bout with one of the dark matches. Kinda sucks for MMA fans, however it doesn’t appear that we would be missing out on too much anyways.
This would have been Lawler’s first contest since suffering a submission loss to Jake Shields in a 182-pound catchweight tussle back in June. Prior to getting caught in Shield’s nasty guillotine choke, Lawler had rattled off five straight W’s, all ending in vicious TKO or KO fashion.
Strikeforce’s next major show, “Strikeforce in Miami,” is scheduled for January 30th in Sunrise, Florida. Company officials confirmed with MMAJunkie.com that the “Ruthless” one would be extended an invite to compete in the event.
“Strikeforce: Evolution” will be jumping off inside the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, with the first aired fight beginning at 10PM ET/PT.
