As UFC president Dana White promised, former heavyweight top contender Alistair Overeem (pictured) will get another go in the big leagues. On Wednesday, it was announced Overeem will meet Stefan Struve at UFC on FOX 13.
The December 13 event takes place inside US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.
Overeem will be looking to collect a much needed with to keep his UFC career alive. “The Demolition Man” has posted a meager 2-3 record since entering the octagon in December 2011.
The high-priced heavyweight has dropped three of his last four, including this month’s upset TKO loss to Ben Rothwell.
Struve, meanwhile, hasn’t been seen since losing to Mark Hunt in March 2013. The 26-year-old was diagnosed with a leaking aortic valve and an enlarged heart five months later.
After “Skyscraper” received medical clearance to return to action, he suffered a setback when he fainted just minutes before he was to take center stage against Matt Mitrione at UFC 175. According to doctors, the July blackout was unrelated to his prior heart condition.
