UFC Ben Saunders

On Monday, a welterweight affair between Ben Saunders (pictured) and Joe Riggs was announced for UFC on FOX 13.

The 170-pound scrap was reported on UFC.com.

The December 13 event takes place inside US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Saunders made a triumphant return to the UFC by being the first fighter to submit someone via omoplata. Chris Heatherly was the unfortunate victim. Saunders primarily fought for Bellator, going 7-3 for the promotion, after getting released from the UFC back in August 2010.

Speaking of returning to the big leagues. Riggs will be competing inside the octagon for the first time since getting knocked out by Diego Sanchez in December of 2006. “Diesel” was originally slated to come back in September against Paulo Thiago, but accidentally shot himself in the hand and thigh.

Riggs has been around the block and back, so it’s hard to believe he’s still only 31 years of age.

Here is the card’s updated roster:

Joe Ellenberger vs. Bryan Barberena

Drew Dober vs. Jamie Varner

Ben Saunders vs. Joe Riggs

Matt Mitrione vs. Gabriel Gonzaga

Alistair Overeem vs. Stefan Struve

Junior dos Santos vs. Stipe Miocic
