After a spectacular night of MMA action, UFC president Dana White awarded Dominick Cruz (pictured), Conor McGregor, Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero each an additional $50,000 for their special performances Saturday night at “UFC 178: Johnson vs. Cariaso.”
Cruz ended his 1,091-day hiatus in triumphant fashion by easily disposing of Takeya Mizugaki. Cruz’s first round TKO earned him “Performance of the Night.”
McGregor took another step towards silencing his haters by TKO’ing Dustin Poirier in the opening round of their scrap. “Notorious” took home the other “Performance of the Night” check.
In the most controversial tango of the evening, Kennedy lost to Romero via TKO after Romero’s corner pulled a bush league stunt with his still in between the second and third rounds. At least Kennedy will get an exta $50,000 for his part in “Fight of the Night.”
UFC 178 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
