Eddie Alvarez (pictured) waited a long time to make his UFC debut. The former Bellator lightweight champion might be wishing he waited a little bit longer after what Donald Cerrone (pictured) did to him Saturday at UFC 178.
Alvarez took the opening round, which is starting to become a trend Cerrone’s opponents are beginning to enjoy. However, “Cowboy” turned up the heat in the second round by punishing Alvarez’s lead leg with kicks.
The damage was visible in more ways than one. Not only was Alvarez’s thigh purple, but his mobility drastically slowed. Think Jose Aldo vs. Urijah Faber. Yes, ouch indeed.
Cerrone finally chopped him down with one final kick in the third round, but instead of allowing Alvarez to stand back up to finish him off for good, Cerrone followed him to the ground and rode out a decision win.
Cerrone has now rattled off five straight victories.
UFC 178 took place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
