So, remember when Cung Le posted the above pic on the Internet and claimed the reason he looked overly ripped was because he had just finished an intense workout and the photo was shot under the “perfect lighting”? Yeah, about that…

As many had suspected, Le was on something, and that something was human growth hormone.

The UFC has suspended Le 12 months*, retroactive to his August 23 TKO defeat to Michael Bisping, for his flunked drug exam.

“UFC middleweight Cung Le tested positive for an excess level of Human Growth Hormone in his system following his fight at UFC Fight Night in Macao, China on August 23,” the UFC’s statement read. “Due to his positive test result, Le was suspended by the UFC and notified that he violated the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy and Promotional Agreement with Zuffa, LLC.

“The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents by our athletes. Le will serve a nine-month suspension and, at its conclusion, will need to pass a drug test before competing in the UFC again.”

Bisping got the UFC to administer enhanced drug testing for their scrap after seeing Le’s revamped physique. “The Count” didn’t flat out accuse of the 42-year-old of juicing, but he pretty much was. And as it turns out, he was right in doing so.

Because the bout took place in Macau, China where there’s no governing body for MMA, the UFC sanctioned the event and conducted all drug exams.

The fight was Le’s first in 21 months. Given his advanced age and how bad he looked against Bisping, it might end up being his last.

Le owns a 9-3 professional MMA record.

* – (UPDATED 10/1/14 at 5:30PM PT) UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed on this week’s edition of “UFC Tonight” that Le is actually suspended 12 months, instead of the nine months the promotion initially stated in their press release.
