The ink hadn’t even dried on Josh Burkman’s new UFC contract yet, but that didn’t stop the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion from issuing Burkman his first assignment.
“The People’s Warrior” will battle Hector Lombard (pictured) at UFC 182.
The January 3 event is expected to take place at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Lombard was hoping for a shootout against teammate Tyron Woodley, then Matt Brown, but it appears Burkman will have to do for now. And Lombard doesn’t seem too happy about it.
“@ufc had to bring this man back because the 170 dont want to fight me!” Lombard tweeted after news broke of his next fight.
Lombard got off to a rocky start in the UFC going 1-2, but is perfect through two outings since dropping to welterweight.
Burkman is victorious in six of his last seven outings. His last five bouts were under World Series of Fighting’s banner.
Burkman emerged onto the UFC back in 2005 as a contestant on “The Ultimate Fighter 2.” The 33-year-old posted a 5-5 mark inside the octagon before getting cut in 2008 after posting his third straight loss.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
Danny Castillo vs. Rustam Khabilov
