Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports is reporting that Quinton Jackson will get his third shot at Wanderlei Silva in January instead of November. “It’s a very fluid situation, but it’s almost certain it won’t happen in November and it’s very unlikely for December,” Iole said.
It was originally thought that Jackson/Silva would co-headline at UFC 91 in Oregon with Randy Couture’s UFC return against Brock Lesnar. Instead, they will finish their trilogy prior to BJ Penn’s re-match against Georges St-Pierre in January.
With Jackson all but confirmed to compete against Silva, that leaves Silva’s former teammate, Marucio “Shogun” Rua, without an opponent at UFC 92 on New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas.
It had been unclear up until this point as to whether or not the UFC was going to bring back Jackson against either Rua or Silva. Now we do know what their intention is to complete the third fight between the former PRIDE rivals.
