At yesterday’s DREAM.6 event in Japan, Fedor Emelianekno told the Japanese crowd that he would like to fight at the next DREAM event, which would take place on New Year’s Eve. He has fought in the last five New Year’s Eve cards in Japan going back to his days in PRIDE.
Affliction Entertainment VP, Tom Atencio, quickly responded to Emelianenko’s comments by saying, “Fedor was supposed to fight for them on New Year’s Eve, but he is not because we extended his contract.”
It was thought that Emelianenko may face the winner of the Mirko Cro Cop vs. Alistair Overeem fight, but since that was a no-contest, it would be unclear who he would face even if Atencio gave him the green light.
If Fedor were to fight on New Year’s Eve in Japan, it would most certainly hurt his chances of fighting on Affliction’s second card.
“Our next show will definitely be the 1st quarter of 2009 in January, possibly February. Nothing is confirmed though,” Atencio said.
