UFC 182, featuring arguably the most anticipated light heavyweight showdown in octagon history between champion Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier, just got a whole lot more awesome.
On this week’s edition of “UFC Tonight,” UFC president Dana White confirmed reigning bantamweight champ Ronda Rousey (pictured) will put her strap up for grabs against Cat Zingano in the show’s co-main event.
The January 3 card takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Rousey has been eyeing this date for quite some time, knowing that Jones and Cormier are expected to make box office bank off the pay-per-view broadcast. Since Rousey also gets a piece of the PPV pie, “Rowdy” wants to ride the guys’ coattails to another fat payday.
Rousey owns an unblemished 10-0 professional record, with her last four being of the UFC title defense variety. She easily disposed of Alexis Davis in her last outing at UFC 175.
Zingano, meanwhile, was supposed to challenge Rousey for her throne at UFC 168, but was forced out of the matchup to undergo knee surgery. She is unbeaten through nine bouts, most recently TKO’ing Amanda Nunes last month at UFC 178.
Here is the show’s current lineup:
Louis Gaudinot vs. Kyoji Horiguchi
Danny Castillo vs. Rustam Khabilov
Josh Burkman vs. Hector Lombard
Cat Zingano vs. Ronda Rousey (UFC bantamweight champion)
Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones (UFC light heavyweight champion)
