Beantown, your boy’s coming home. Your other boy, and his other home, that is. UFC featherweight Conor McGregor (pictured) will meet Dennis Siver on January 18 (Sunday) in Boston.
The UFC confirmed the matchup Thursday.
TD Garden is expected to host the festivities.
McGregor was angling to meet the winner of Saturday’s UFC 179 title tilt between featherweight king Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes, but it appears that honor will go to the victor of next month’s battle between Frankie Edgar and Cub Swanson.
“Notorious” is one of the UFC’s fastest rising superstars. He’s fresh off September’s first round TKO finish over Dustin Poirier. The chatty Irishman has rattled off 12 straight wins.
This will mark the second time in five UFC outings McGregor has performed in Boston, which contains a heavy Irish population.
Siver, meanwhile, came back from his nine-month drug suspension for Human Chorionic Gonadrotropin by posting a unanimous decision win over Charles Rosa earlier this month.
The 145-pounders will headline the show in a five-round affair.
Fox Sports 1 will broadcast the show following the NFL’s NFC Championship Game on FOX.
