The injury bug just threw a big monkey wrench into Cris “Cyborg” Justino’s plans of fighting UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.
During Saturday night’s Invicta 9 event, company president Shannon Knapp announced Justino will be forced out her bantamweight bout on December 5 with a torn anterior talofibular ligament in her ankle.
Invicta FC atomweight champion Michelle Waterson will now headline the card against Herica Tiburcio. Additionally, Cindy Dandois faces Tonya Evinger in the show’s co=featured attraction.
Justino, who is Invicta’s current featherweight champ, was hoping to successfully make her 135-pound debut and then transition to the UFC to challenge Rousey in the biggest scrap in women’s MMA history.
That agenda has been derailed for the time being.
No word on how long Justino will be sidelined.
