Holly Holm’s (pictured) big league debut will have to wait for another day. Bleacher Report confirmed with Holm’s management Thursday that the bantamweight withdrew from her UFC 181 scrap against Raquel Pennington with an undisclosed injury.
The UFC has yet to address Holm’s status for the December 6 event, which takes place inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
No word on how long the former boxer will be forced to ride the pine.
With just 23 days remaining until showtime, it is unknown if the promotion will search for a new opponent for Pennington or save her for another card. If she remains in the event, it’s a near certainty she’ll be demoted to the prelims.
After arduous negotiations, Holm finally signed with the UFC in July. The 33-year-old owns an unblemished 7-0 MMA record since transitioning from boxing in March 2011. Holm has shown she’s much more than just hands inside the cage, finishing off five of her victims with her legs.
MMAbyneko.com first reported Holm’s injury.
