Controversy was in the air Saturday night at UFC 181, and Robbie Lawler (pictured) came out on the winning side of things with a (48-47, 47-48, 49-46) split decision over Johny Hendricks to capture the welterweight title.
Lawler clearly took the first and last rounds, but what happened in between is anybody’s guess. It appeared as though Hendricks was cruising his way to another decision victory over the man he beat just eight months ago to win the vacant belt, but two of the three judges thought differently.
When it was all said and done, Hendricks took the loss like a man.
“I felt like s***, I wrestled like s***,” Hendricks stated. “Robbie was the better man tonight, I will be back and I will get my title back.”
Hendricks was more than a 2-1 odds-on favorite to retain his hardware.
UFC 181 took place inside Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
