After Affliction decided to scrap their October 11th “Day of Reckoning” event due to slow ticket sales and the impending announcement of their promotional partnership with Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, their next event was tentatively scheduled for January 17th. It now seems that Affliction is unsure if the 17th will still be the date as V.P. Tom Atencio would only say, “The January show is a guarantee.”

Golden Boy and Affliction attempted to get the Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett fight on the Joel Casamayor vs. Juan Manuel Marquez card, but Golden Boy’s promotional partner for the event nixed the idea.

It now seems that Affliction and Golden Boy will try it again. “We will have one boxing match and four MMA matches,” Atencio recently said.

Boxing and MMA have shared the spotlight before, but not on a stage this large. It could be a huge success to crossover fans, or it could be a disaster. No matter what happens though, it will surely help Affliction’s clothing line as they support both MMA fighters and boxers.
