“UFC 182: Jones vs. Cormier” took place Saturday night inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. 

Reigning light heavyweight king Jon Jones defended his crown against bitter rival Daniel Cormier in the show’s featured attraction. Lightweights Donald Cerrone and Myles Jury met in the co-main event.

Here are the official results and play-by-play from tonight’s action:

Preliminary Card:

Marion Reneau Defeats Alexis Dufresne via Unanimous Decision (30-26, 30-25, 30-25)

1stRound: This is a 138-pound catchweight because Dufresne came in too heavy, let’s see how that affects her with some sharp jabs. Dufresne marches forward, but is getting countered with a barrage of fists. Reneau stuffs a takedown attempt. Dufresne is bleeding from her nose. Reneau’s speed is overwhelming her. Dufresne is getting battered. Reneau torches her with a vicious uppercut. There is serious consideration for a 10-8 here.

5thRound scores it: Reneau, 10-8

2ndRound: Reneau picking up right where she left off in the opening five minutes. Dufresne needs to try to get this to the mat, because the current strategy is not working. Speed kills, and Dufresne has no answer on the feet. Reneau tags her with a knee in the midsection. Dufresne desperately tries to pull guard, but Reneau easily stands back up. Reneau is schooling her in the standup game by mixing punches and kicks. This could have been a 10-8, as well.

5thRound scores it: Reneau, 10-9.

3rdRound: Reneau should easily cruise to a decision, but let’s see if she tries to finish her opponent off. Dufresne is clearly out of her depth here, but she won’t quit. So, there’s that. Reneau is simply putting on a clinic with her crisp and clean strikes. This is about as one-sided as it gets at this level. Dufresne continues to swing for the fences to no avail. Reneau’s corner is screaming for her to finish, and she’s flurrying in the last minute to try and accommodate their wishes.  flurrying in the final minute. She has no fear of anything coming in return. There’s the bell.

5thRound scores it: Reneau, 10-9, and should easily take it, 30-26 (at least).

Omari Akhmedov Defeats Mats Nilsson via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

1stRound: Akhmedov quickly takes his opponent to the canvas. Nilsson tires to keep him in his guard, but Akhmedov escapes and stands over him dropping heavy right hands to the body. Nilsson fights to his feet and presses Akhmedov against the cage. Akhmedov lands a pair of leg kicks. He follows up with an overhand right and left hook combination. Nilsson shoots for a double-leg, though ends up on his back. They’re back to their feet. Akhmedov scores a double-leg takedown.

5thRound scores it: Akhmedov, 10-9.

2ndRound: Nilsson connects with a body kick and begins scoring with a few straight punches. Akhmedov responds by taking him down in the center of the cage. Nilsson looking to work submissions from off his back. Nilsson tries an armbar, but doesn’t come close to finishing or escaping. Akhmedov opts to let him get back up. Nilsson lands a nice right hand, but gets taken down again for his troubles. A couple left hands by Akhmedov. Nilsson responds with some elbows from the bottom. They’re back up. One final takedown for Akhmedov before the end of the round.

5thRound scores it: Akhmedov, 10-9.

3rdRound: Nilsson charges the center of the cage, but eats several punches to the body then thwarts a takedown attempt. Akhmedov cracks Nilsson with an uppercut. Akhmedov lands a right hand counter to a Nilsson low kick. Nilsson finally secures a takedown. Akhmedov wiggles to his feet, but Nilsson is draped all over him. Nilsson sits down and attempts a kimura. Nilsson now transitions to a guillotine choke from guard, then switches to a brabo choke just before the horn. Too little, too late for Nilsson.

5thRound scores it: Nilsson, 10-9, but likely lost, 29-28.

Evan Dunham Defeats Rodrigo Damm via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Damm scores with a one-two combo to start things off. Dunham the aggressor early. He’s working his long left jab. Dunham changing levels nicely. Damm eats a big right hook. Not much offense from Damm through three minutes. Dunham clocks him with a knee to the chin, then a head kick. Damm takes another right.

5thRound sores it: Dunham, 10-9.

2ndRound: They both come out firing, but Dunham is clearly winning the exchanges. His hands looks sharp. Dunham shoots for a single-leg, though can’t get him to the ground. That was an odds move considering Dunham has been dominating on the feet. Damm scores with a kick to the midsection, but Dunham catches some of it and gets a brief taken down. Dunham is just picking him apart with his hands. Damm needs to somehow get this to the ground, but he can’t close the distance.

5thRound scores it: Dunham, 10-9.

3rdRound: Not sure how much this is playing into Damm’s performance, but his corner had visa issues coming from Brazil and couldn’t make it. This round going the exact same as the opening two. Absolutely nothing from Damm. Dunham nails him with a one-two. How about that, Damm is motioning for Dunham to come forward. He does and punishes Damm. Damm’s face is a bloody mess.

5thRound scores it: Dunham, 10-9, and should run the table, 30-27.

Shawn Jordan Defeats Jared Cannonier via KO (Punches) at 2:57 in the 1stRound

1stRound: Jordan has always been big, but he looks pudgier than usual. Nothing much from either heavyweight two minutes in. Jordan drops him with a thunderous right overhand and pounces. He’s giving him the business on the ground. It’s a wrap.

Cody Garbrandt Defeats Marcus Brimage via TKO (Punches) at 3:50 in the 3rdRound

1stRound: They exchange strikes early. Garbrandt takes a kick to the groin and time is called. Game on. Lots of activity, but nothing landing for either. Garbrandt secures a takedown in the center of the cage halfway through the frame. Brimage gets loose. Garbrandt lands a head kick. Garbrandt takes another kick to the cup and time is called. Game on. No warning for Brimage, but you would think he’ll get a point deducted on the next one. Brimage gets a leg kick, but Garbrandt tags him with a left hook that wobbles him. He’s going for the kill, but Brimage is saved by the bell.

5thRound scores it: Garbrandt, 10-9.

2ndRound: Brimage comes out firing. Unfortunately for him, nothing significant landed. Garbrandt connects with a left hook to the body. Brimage answers with a left to the body. Brimage performing better in this period. He eats a kick to the face. Overhand right by Brimage. Garbrandt’s pace has slowed quite a bit. Octagon jitters? Close one to score.

5thRound scores it: Brimage, 10-9.

3rdRound: Brimage comes out fast again. Brimage kicks his legs out from underneath him and lands on top. Garbrandt attempted a triangle choke from his back to get free. They’re standing again. Garbrandt connects with a kick to the body. Brimage eats a big right hand. Garbrandt floors him with a right hook. Brimage is still trying to fight, but he’s getting it handed to him. Garbrandt drops him again. Game over.

Paul Felder Defeats Danny Castillo via KO (Spinning Back-Fist) at 2:09 in the 2ndRound

1stRound: Castillo takes take a kick to the groin and time is called. Referee Yves Lavigne tells Felder he’ll deduct a point next time. Game on. Felder really working the kicks. His hands looks sharp, too. Felder wobbles him with a head kick. Spinning back-kick to the body by Felder. Castillo is having a tough time right now. He eats a knee to the face.

5thRound scores it: Felder, 10-9.

2ndRound: Castillo’s legs taking some solid punishment. Castillo fails on a takedown attempt and eats a big knee to the grill for his troubles. Felder unleashes a spinning back-fist that knocks Castillo out cold. Felder unloads another punch to the face on the ground that wasn’t necessary.

Hector Lombard Defeats Josh Burkman via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

1stRound: Burkman lands a right to kick things off. Lombard is just hinting him down. He catches a leg and briefly takes him down. Burkman nails him with another right on the way up. Lombard takes another right hook to the dome. Lombard scores with an uppercut. Lombard lands a right of his own. Body shot by Burkman. Lombard resonds with a left. Tight one to score.

5thRound scores it: Burkman, 10-9.

2ndRound: Burkman connects with a body kick. He follows up with a right. Lombard eats everything without issue and is firing off bombs. Burkman is taking a beating, but he’s still firing back. Burkman looks tired, hands down. Burkman’s strikes are coming out really slow now. He’s daring Lombard to throw with his hands down. They are both moving in slow motion. Burkman in super slo-mo. Slid right by Lombard.

5thRound scores it: Lombard, 10-9.

3rdRound: Lombard gets a takedown within a minute. Burkman trying to keep him in his half-guard. Lombard advances to side-control. Burkman fights to his feet. Thunderous leg kick by Lombard. Halfway through the round. Lombard is giving him the business right now with several unanswered punches to the grill. They are swinging for the fences in the pocket. Burkman can take punishment. Burkman’s right thigh is nasty bruised.

5thRound scores it: Loombard, 10-9, and should rally, 29-28.

Kyoji Horiguchi Defeats Louis Gaudinot via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: These two look like they’re moving in fast forward after the Lombard-Burkman fight… Gaudinot takes his legs out from underneath him with a leg kick. Horiguchi continues to switch stances to keep his opponent off-balance. Flying knee by Horiguchi just misses. They trade leg kicks. Gaudinot continues to be the aggressor. Big leg kick by Horiguchi. Front kick to the body by Horiguchi. He follows up with another kick to the body. Horiguchi has him clinched against the cage. He dragged Gaudinot down for a brief second. Close one to score.

5thRound scores it: Horiguchi, 10-9.

2ndRound: Horiguchi rocks him with a right and follows up with a flying knee to the body. Horiguchi is coming with an unpredictable style, while Gaudinot is much more technical. Gaudinot slaps on a standing arm-triangle. Horiguchi how has him clinched against the cage. Horiguchi connects with a flurry and caps it off with a head kick. Horiguchi is starting to score big with his standup. Gaudinot misses with a head kick and eats a right for his efforts. Horiguchi catches a kick and trips him to the ground. Gaudinot eating some hammer fists before the horn blares.

5thRound scores it: Horiguchi, 10-9.

3rdRound: Gaudinot clocks him with a heavy right. Horiguchi answers with a right of his own. Body kick by Horiguchi. Gaudinot having a tough time keeping up with the Japanese star’s speed. Horiguchi scores with a one-two combo. Horiguchi has him clinched against the cage. Gaudinot misses on a Hail Mary right hand.

5thRound scores it: Horiguchi, 10-9, and should run the cards, 30-27.

Brad Tavares Defeats Nate Marquardt via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Lombard and Burkman really zapped the energy out of the building. Anyway, inside leg kick by Tavares to start things off. Marquardt returns the favor. Solid straight right by Marquardt. Tavares counters with a left hook. Tavares clocks him with another right and follows up with a knee to the midsection. Marquardt nails him with a front kick to the face. Crowd starting to boo. Tavares kicks him right in the face before the bell rings.

5thRound scores it: Tavares, 10-9.

2ndRound: Tavares is starting to really damage Marquardt’s lead leg with kicks. Not the most thrilling bout in the world. They trade leg kicks. Tavares starting to pull away. Marquardt scores with two unanswered leg kicks. Tavares charges forward looking for a takedown to no avail. Marquardt now has him pressed against the cage looking for his own takedown.

5thRound scores it: Tavares, 10-9.

3rdRound: Tavares is really pumping his left jab and Marquardt’s right eye is showing it. Marquardt clinching him against the cage and lands a knee to the stomach. The crowd is not happy. Marquardt lands a left to the body. Referee Yves Lavigne separates them. Marquardt’s left thigh is purple. For real. Tavares connects with a big one-two combo. Marquardt looks much slower than his opponent. Crowd really raining down boos.

5thRound scores it: Tavares, 10-9, and likely cruised, 30-27.

Donald Cerrone Defeats Myles Jury via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

1stRound: Jury catches a kick and trips him to the mat. Cerrone immediately goes for an omoplata. Cerrone uses the submission to move to side-control. He now takes his back with a body triangle. Jury doing a good job of fending him off, but he’s still stuck in the triangle. Cerrone landing punches from behind. Cerrone slaps on a rear-naked choke. Jury peels his hands off and is free for now. Thirty seconds left. Cerrone tries an armbar just before the horn.

5thRound scores it: Cerrone, 10-9.

2ndRound: Cerrone thwarts a takedown. Nothing significant landing for either fighter through three minutes. Jury lands two unanswered kicks to the body. The pace has slowed quite a bit. Cerrone is more hesitant to throw kicks because Jury is looking to catch them for takedowns. Cerrone lands a knee to the body. That was a tight round.

5thRound scores it: Cerrone, 10-9.

3rdRound: Jury likely needs a finish, but he’s not coming out with any greater urgency. Cerrone is still the aggressor. Jury gets a body lock and has him clinched against the cage. Cerrone clocks him with a kick right to the jaw. Jury dives for a single-leg but can’t finish it. Jury falls on his back and Cerrone is slamming his legs with nasty kicks.

5thRound scores it: Cerrone, 10-9, and likely easily won, 30-27.

Jon Jones Defeats Daniel Cormier via Unanimous Decision (49-46, 49-46, 49-46) (Jones retains UFC light heavyweight title)

1stRound: Haven’t been excited for a UFC fight in a while. Let’s hope this lives up to the hype. Herb Dean is the third man inside the cage. Bruce Buffer says, “IT’S TIME!” Jones throwing some fancy kicks to start things off. It’s clear he wants to keep his reach advantage. They trade uppercuts. Jones catches a kick and trips him to the mat. Jones draped on his back, but gets to his feet. Cormier trying hard to get to the inside. Jones’ takedown attempt gets stuffed. Cormier is the aggressor early. Jones clocks him with a straight left to the face. Cormier scores with an overhand right. Jones lands a big knee to the body. Body shot by Jones. Jones showing he’s the more dynamic striker. He tags Cormier with a left hook to the body. Cormier tags him with an uppercut in the clinch, Jones counters with a knee to the body.

5thRound scores it: Jones, 10-9.

2ndRound: No takedown attempts thus far from Cormier. Probably because he can’t close the distance long enough to shoot. Jones kicks him in the midsection. He tries a standing guillotine, but Cormier fights free. Cormier lands an overhand right. Jones has him clinched against the cage. One-two combo by Cormier. Jones scores with two elbows in the clinch. Jones fails on another takedown attempt. Cormier lands some punches in the clinch. Jones with a straight left, Cormier answers with an uppercut. Jones with another short elbow in the clinch. They trade knees to the body. A lot of clinching in this round. Not sure Jones should do that since is reach is so big. Good back-and-forth action. Right hook by Cormier.

5thRound scores it: Cormier, 10-9.

3rdRound: Cormier clocks him with a big body kick. Jones answers with one of his own. Jones lands a long side kick to the neck. Big jab by Cormier. Cormier takes a finger to the right eye and time is called. Game on. Jones clocks him with a big body kick. Cormier stuffs a takedown and fails on trying to take Jones down for the first time. Jones nails him with a short elbow. Cormier needs to try to make this dirty again like the second round. Knee to the body by Jones. Jones really finding a home for his short elbows. Overhand right and uppercut by Cormier. Jones drops for a guillotine choke before the end of the round, but ends up eating some punches.

5thRound scores it: Jones, 10-9.

4thRound: Jones scores with another kick to the body. Cormeir continues to charge forward. Jones trips Cormier to the ground. The champ is starting to pull away. He plants Cormier on his back and has him pressed against the cage. Cormier gets to his feet, but Jones is draped all over him. Jones is laying on him against the cage. Cormier finally wiggles loose. Cormier has a body lock in the center of the ring.

5thRound scores it: Jones, 10-9.

5thRound: Cormier needs a finish here. Jones lands two big kicks. Cormier gets a body lock, but can’t take him down. Jones clinches him against the cage. Jones just holding Cormier against the cage now. Crowd booing thinking he’s stalling. Three minutes to go and Cormier needs a miracle. They have been clinching in the center of the ring. Cormier picks Jones up and slams him to the ground. Jones gets right back up. They trade come bombs at the bell, a couple landed after the horn.

5thRound scores it: Jones, 10-9, and likely retained his title, 49-46.
