UFC Jon Jones

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones (pictured) just loves to tweet things, then delete them immediately after realizing he might catch heat for what he just wrote.

I’m not sure if Jones is doing it intentionally, or he really thinks that by clicking the “Delete” button seconds after thumbing out the posts that none of his 1.01 million Twitter follows will see it.

Jones watched intently Saturday night as Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Johnson battled at UFC on FOX 14 for next crack at his crown. Shortly after Gustafasson was upset by Johnson, Jones tweeted the following message that was captured by MMA writer David St. Martin:

Seconds later, Jones pulled a Houdini and made the post disappear. Sorry, Jon. This is the Internet and nothing is ever truly erased.

Perhaps Jones saw the tears of disappointment gushing from Gustafsson’s eyes and felt bad for the unsportsmanlike dig so he wanted to redact it. Or, Jones knew a deleted post would get more attention than one that remained untouched.

After all, Gustafsson tore a page out of Georges St-Pierre’s playbook earlier this month after Jones defeated Daniel Cormier via unanimous decision.

“Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, I am not impressed by your performance!” Gustafsson wrote on his Facebook page immediately following UFC 182.

In any case, Jones will now defend his throne against Johnson later this year.
