After years of teasing their faithful Filipino fans with a live event, the UFC is finally coming through on May 16.
On Wednesday, the planet’s premier mixed martial arts promotion announced their debut in the Philippines will go down inside SM Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.
SM Lifestyle Entertainment inc will partner with the UFC in promoting the show.
“We are thrilled to be kicking off our Asia event calendar in Manila this year,” siad
Executive Vice President and General Manager, UFC Asia, Ken Berger said. “The UFC has a loyal and passionate fan base in the Philippines and we’re looking forward to bringing the very best of MMA to Manila for the first time. We have found a great event partner in SM Lifestyle Entertainment inc. and are excited that the SM Mall of Asia Arena will be home to a historic UFC event that fans will remember for years to come.”
No word on whether UFC Fight Pass, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 or a combination of the three will make the card available for live viewing in America.
In addition, no fights were announced for the event. Middleweight Mark Munoz (pictured) is the UFC’s most popular Filipino fighter, but he is currently assigned to face Caio Magalhaes at UFC 184.
If Munoz is able to leave that February 28 scrap unscathed, there’s no reason he wouldn’t jump at the chance to perform in front of his fellow Filipinos.
