Word on the street is that the UFC 109 welterweight scrap between Josh Koscheck and Paulo Thiago is off after Kos fell victim to … an undisclosed injury. After a tough year of injury-riddled cards, it appears the UFC will be kicking off 2010 the same way it ended 2009.

Koscheck confirmed the news late Monday evening via his Twitter account, “Well the news is out. I am not fighting feb 6 UFC 109. Do due to injury. I will be good to go back to training in a couple weeks I hope!!”

“It’s all good & I’ll get my body rested & back to the top real soon. Keep checking my Twitter & I’ll post news on my recovery.”

According to MMAFighting.com, who first broke the news, Thiago will remain on the card, however no word yet on who might be subbing-in for the injured wrestler.

Thiago shocked the MMA world when he TKO’d Kos at UFC 95 in the 1stRound of their matchup last February. Koscheck has been chomping at the bit to get another crack at the talented Brazilian ever since.

Jon Fitch, Koshcheck’s American Kickboxing Academy teammate, was able to avenge the loss by taking an easy unanimous decision over Thiago at UFC 100. Thiago was able to bounce back from his only professional blemish by posting a Uni-D of his own over Jacob Volkmann at UFC 106 last month.

Speaking of 106, Kos unleashed his most impressive professional performance against Anthony Johnson that same evening inside the Mandalay Bay Event Center in Las Vegas. He executed a perfect gameplan that enabled him to earn a 2ndRound rear-naked submission victory.

UFC 109 is expected to take place Super Bowl weekend at the Mandalay Bay. Here are the other fighters rumored to be participating in the show:

Rolles Gracie vs. Mostapha Al Turk
