UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey says she’s facing the toughest test of her MMA career when she defends her throne against Cat Zingano next Saturday at UFC 184. However, Rousey still managed to find the time to pick a cat fight with UFC ring girl Arianny Celeste (pictured).
During Thursday’s UFC 184 media workouts in Glendale, CA, Rousey said UFC fighters should be paid more than card carriers like Celeste.
That clearly struck a nerve with Celeste, who is undoubtedly the highest paid of the UFC’s handful of ring girl.
“Pretty positive we don’t get paid more than fighters. I work my ass off outside of Ufc not sure if anyone notices,” Celeste tweeted after catching wind of Rousey’s comments. “Everything I have I’ve worked hard for. I support my family. I’m happy. Assumptions makes asses out of everyone.
“Blows my mind. I was nothing but respectful and nice when I met her. And I will continue to be ️bc that’s how I was raised. RESPECT. I’m a LOVER NOT a FIGHTER.”
The lowest disclosed salary a UFC rookie starts at is $8,000 to show, with the possibility of doubling that paycheck with a win. Fighters can compete anywhere from zero to five times each year, depending on health and opportunity.
A UFC ring girl’s salary has never been disclosed. However, I would be shocked if Celeste was paid less than $40,000 each year from the UFC.
Celeste and Rousey will share the same stage next Friday at the UFC 184 weigh-ins. Chances are Rousey couldn’t care less.
Sorry, slow MMA news day…
