On a day when Ronda Rousey was hosting UFC 184 media workouts ahead of Saturday’s scrap against Cat Zingano, the UFC announced a bout for “the next Ronda Rousey.”
Rose Namajunas (pictured) will battle Nina Ansaroff at UFC 187. The May 23 event takes place inside MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Namajunas’ chances of being the strawweight division’s Rousey took a big hit when she lost to Carla Esparza in “The Ultimate Fighter 20” finals to become the UFC’s inaugural 115-pound champ. “Thug” owns a mundane 2-2 professional record, but has plenty of upside at just 22.
UFC president Dana White previously said Namajunas could be “the next Ronda Rousey” when she was in the middle of filming TUF 20.
Ansaroff is looking to bounce back from a unanimous decision defeat to Juliana de Lima Carneiro. The 29-year-old had rattled off five straight wins prior to November’s outing.
Here is the card’s current lineup:
Justin Scoggins vs. Joshua Sampo
Rose Namajunas vs. Nina Ansaroff
Joseph Benavidez vs. John Moraga
Andrei Arlovski vs. Travis Browne
Donald Cerrone vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov
Vitor Belfort vs. Chris Weidman (UFC middleweight champion)
Anthony Johnson vs. Jon Jones (UFC light heavyweight champion)
