Nobody in the MMA world can score a video interview with former UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva (pictured) to discuss testing positive for two different performance-enhancing drugs, but TMZ has … because like the NSA, they’re everywhere.
TMZ Sports caught up with Silva and asked him about his flunked exams, which has essentially tarnished his illustrious career.
Silva is sticking to his I-am-completely-shocked-because-I-didn’t-knowingly-take-anything-banned guns. It’s a popular position most professional athletes endorse after getting busted for a PED.
Here’s one of the main holes in Silva’s claim of innocence: Silva was busted on a January 9 test for Drostanolone and Androsterone, he then came up clean on a January 19 exam, but proceeded to fail his fight night drug test on January 31.
The last positive test showed Drostanalone, as well as Oxazepam and Temazepam – two prohibited Benzodiazepines – were in his system immediately after he posted a unanimous decision win over Nick Diaz at UFC 183.
Silva will get to plead his case before the Nevada Athletic Commission later this year. He is facing at least a nine-month suspension, fine and having his victory overturned to a no contest.
Oh, and about Diaz.
Silva says he’s more than happy to fight Diaz again to prove he’s the better fighter.
