On Friday, UFC president Dana White announced a women’s bantamweight top contender match between Miesha Tate (pictured) and Jessica Eye.
The bout will take place sometime in June. The UFC currently has four events scheduled for that month, so there won’t be a shortage of options.
The victor will advance to face the winner of August’s title tilt between champion Ronda Rousey and Bethe Correia. Rousey will once again be a heavy favorite to retain her throne.
Tate is already down 0-2 to Rousey, but she is the only woman to take “Rowdy” beyond the first round through 11 professional fights. “Cupcake” will be riding a three fight-winning streak into the tango. All of those wins came via decision.
Eye is 8-1 (1 NC) over her past 10 outings. Her win over Sarah Kaufman was overturned to a no contest after Eye tested positive for a “prohibited drug.” Which illegal substance that was found in Eye’s system was never revealed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the committee who oversaw the scrap.
Eye has never faced Rousey.
