EliteXC Vice President Jared Shaw announced that the company’s end of year card will be held in Reno, Nevada. The November 8th card will be the last major event that the promotion will be holding for 2008, and they are planning on going out with a bang. There are a lot of big names that have been mentioned to be competing on the Showtime card, and Shaw was able to confirm quite a few of them.
“We’re going to have a huge card in November,” Shaw told MMAJunkie.com. “We’re going to be in Reno, Nevada. It’s going to be fantastic.”
There is even a possibility that the company will crown their very first light heavyweight champion. Shaw stated their top 205-pounder will be competing on the card, and could be fighting for the title depending upon who his opponent will be.
“Rafael ‘Feijao’ (Cavalcante) is going to be on the card,” Shaw stated. “While we’ve spoken about Cyrille Diabate, but it’s not definitive that that’s going to be his opponent.
“Until we have a definitive opponent, we do not know if we will introduce the light-heavyweight title,” Shaw explained. “When we are ready to introduce the light-heavyweight title, there is no doubt that ‘Feijao’ will be in a fight for that title. He’s without a doubt the No. 1 fighter that we have in the light-heavyweight division.”
Shaw was a little coy when he discussed the vacant EliteXC lightweight title. It was reported earlier this week that EliteXC has offered Eddie Alvarez and Nick Diaz the opportunity to face off for the open title, and both have accepted.
“If Nick and Eddie are both saying that, then maybe it will happen,” Shaw sheepishly stated.
